Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
In September, ten storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
Our theme for the evening was #Adulting. We heard stories about having to act like a grown-up for the first time, figuring out a career path, and learning to shop like an adult.
In the end, for our second month in a row, we had a tie. One of our winners was Susan Crawford, with her story about how her perspective on her father shifted.
Susan earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November. Next up is our second winner, Ted Elicker, who talked about what it means to be the adult in a relationship.
Ted also earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November. Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Kevin Reinmiller. Kevin shared his story about his heroic efforts during a college dorm emergency.

On January 16, ten storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
Our theme for the evening was Celebration. We heard stories of questionable holiday traditions, unusual guests at a family wedding, and many, many memorable birthdays.
Phil Broder won with his story about the dangers of participating in holiday celebrations when visiting foreign countries. Phil earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November.
Next up is Kelley Gibson. Kelley told the story of the time, despite all advice to the contrary, she braved a snowstorm to attend a 40th birthday celebration.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Randy Parker, who recalled a big win for the Philadelphia Eagles, and a big mishap in gathering souvenirs for Mom-mom.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
On November 21, 2017, the ten winners from our monthly open mic story slams returned to compete for the title of Best Storyteller in York. We gathered at the beautiful Capitol Theatre in downtown York, and our storytellers took the stage to share their stories with a full house – more than double the audience at our monthly events.
Our theme for the evening was Glory Days. We heard stories of childhood holidays, high school experiences, like theatre performances and prom nights, and teenage misadventures.
Eileen Joyce won with her story about living through the glory days of grunge music.
Eileen took home the trophy and bragging rights. Next up is Allison Witherow. Allison told the story of how her family’s Halloween celebration evolved over time.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Matt McDunnell, who told us about a spectacular homemade Halloween costume from his childhood.
