Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling
events in York, Pennsylvania. On May 17, 2016, 12 storytellers shared their stories with a sold-out crowd at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
Our theme for the evening was Best Intentions. Matt Feeser won with the story of a trip to Virginia Beach when
horsing around with college friends went wrong. Here’s Matt.
Next up is Sarah Chain. Sarah talked about hobby she shares with her boyfriend, and some of the milestones they’ve reached together.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Debbie Gable, who shared a story about going back to her
childhood home to tell her parents the truth about why she was getting a divorce.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
On April 19, 2016, eleven storytellers shared their stories with a sold-out crowd at Holy Hound Taproom in
downtown York.
The theme for the evening was “Hunger.” Eileen Joyce, one of our regular storytellers at York Story Slam, won
with a story about her cat’s tactics for waking Eileen up to feed him. Here’s Eileen.
Eileen earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November. Next up is Matt McDunnell. Matt talked about about a
vision quest he participated in when he was in college.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from our friend Jim Breslin, the founder of West Chester Story Slam and Co-Founder of Lancaster Story Slam. It was Jim’s first visit to York Story Slam, and we were delighted when his name was drawn and he told us a story about a month he spent at a wilderness canoe camp when he was a teenager.

On March 15, 2016, ten storytellers shared their stories with a sold-out crowd at Holy Hound Taproom in
downtown York.
The theme for the evening was “Luck,” and we heard several stories about people being in the right place at the
right time. Heather Klinefelter won with her story about getting to hang out with a band after they ate at a
restaurant where she worked in the late 90s.
Next up is Tanya Bankert. Tanya told us she was nervous, but she decided to put her name in the hat during intermission. Her name was pulled, and once she started sharing some of her misadventures in the world of dating as a widow, she said she could have gone on forever.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Aaron Lewis, who told us about the time in high school when he avoided catastrophe after spending a weekend on his teacher’s ranch in Texas.

storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
On February 16, 2016, twelve storytellers shared their stories with a sold-out crowd at Holy Hound Taproom in
downtown York.
The theme for the evening was “Sick,” so we heard a lot of tales of various bodily fluids emitting from various
parts of people’s bodies. Brad Jennings had the highest score with his story about a few times when he was sick.
Since Brad had already earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November, the next spot went to David
Weissman, who told us about a time from his childhood when he pretended to be sick so he could stay home from school. Here’s his story.
Our final story on this month’s podcast features Susan Jennings. She told us about some of the life lessons she learned while she was on maternity leave.

On January 19, 2016, we held our first event, and fourteen storytellers got on the microphone to tell their stories
The theme was “New Beginnings.” Brad Jennings won the night with the story of his first day working for a
newspaper in another town. Next up is one of Brad’s newspaper colleagues, Eileen Joyce. Eileen told us about the challenges and opportunities she faced throughout a childhood full of frequent relocation. Our final story on this month’s podcast features Tom LaForgia. He told us about how family dynamics are changing for him with the recent passing of the matriarch of his family.
