Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On April 16, eleven storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
The theme for our April story slam was GOING THE DISTANCE. We heard stories of great physical distances traveled, geographic distances that felt hopelessly far, and two pregnancy and delivery stories.
In the end, our winner was Ty Lohr, who won with his story about the first road trip he and his friend took as adults.
Next up we have a story from Christina Kauffman, who shared a story about her childhood paper route.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from John Teske. John shared his story of the memorable hike he took on the eve of his 50th birthday.

On March 19th, ten storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York. The theme for our March Story Slam was SILVER LININGS. We heard stories of falling short then seeing the light, positive takeaways from hardships and major life events, and even one story about a pie contest.
In the end, our winner was Angela Marick, who won with her story about a turning point in her formerly
"vanilla" life.
Next up we have a story from Phil Rearich, who shared his story of finding silver linings amid life's challenges.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Jamie Beth. Jamie shared her story about a "pie-off" that
took place shortly after she started a new job in NYC.

The theme for our February story slam was BAD DATES. We heard stories of bad matches, bad behavior, and meeting the parents (sometimes way too soon).
In the end, our winner was Mina Edmondson, with her story about the life lesson she took away from several dates with a man she met on Match.com.
Next up we have a story from Mark Lentz, who told us of a mountain biking trip gone wrong when his then-girlfriend tagged along.

Our theme for the evening was RESOLUTIONS. We heard stories of people who inspire us to be better, what it takes to make a change, and why some resolutions are better left alone.
In the end, our winner was Matt McDunnell, with his story about a tumultuous relationship with his college scriptwriting instructor. Matt earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November!
Next up we have a story from Kat Brown, who told us of her ambitious New Year's Eve efforts to purge negative things from her life.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
On November 20th, the twelve winners from our monthly open mic story slams returned to compete for the title of Best Storyteller in York. We gathered at the beautiful Appell Center in downtown York, and our storytellers took the stage to share their stories with a full house – more than double the audience at our monthly events.
Our theme for the evening was Satisfaction. We heard stories of questionable adolescent decisions, adventures with loved ones, both animal and human, and relationships that change with time. Ted Elicker won with his story about the satisfaction — or lack thereof — with his family’s pets.
Next up is Brian Spence, who told us — and for the first time, his parents — about a Midwestern snowstorm to remember from his teenage years.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Jason Plotkin, who told us about the lengths a father goes to ensure his daughter is comfortable at swim lessons.

In the end, our winner was Kevin Reinmiller, with his story about waking up the morning after a party.

Our theme for the evening was #Adulting. We heard stories about having to act like a grown-up for the first time, figuring out a career path, and learning to shop like an adult.
In the end, for our second month in a row, we had a tie. One of our winners was Susan Crawford, with her story about how her perspective on her father shifted.
Susan earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November. Next up is our second winner, Ted Elicker, who talked about what it means to be the adult in a relationship.
