Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
On April 21st, eight storytellers shared their stories with our audience through our first ever virtual slam! Our theme for the evening was MAN vs BEAST. We heard stories about encounters with wild animals, stories about family pets, and one story about facing fear - the beast within.
In the end, Jason Sabol won with his story about his childhood pet, and his last days with Jason’s family. Jason earned a spot in our Grand Slam in November. Congratulations, Jason!
Next up is a story from Jeanie Parker, who shared why she was afraid of being eaten alive by a bear on family vacations in the Poconos.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Eileen Joyce. Eileen shared her story of preparing her cat for a cross-country flight.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On February 19th, eleven storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
Our theme for the evening was SECOND CHANCES. We heard stories about second chances at life and love,
major life events that provided a significant shift in perspective, stories about being given a chance and totally blowing it, and overall, quite a few tales of redemption.
In the end, Phil Broder won with his story of a college English assignment that led to a big opportunity to shine.
Next up is a story from Anne Ladof, who shared about finding ways to incorporate movement into her life as a young girl and an adult.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Ty Lohr. Ty shared his story of the day he met his best friend.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On January 21st, eleven storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
Our theme for the evening was BEST DAY EVER, and we had a packed house! We heard stories about childhood wonder, the true spirit of holidays spent with family, and overcoming and letting go. In the end, we had a tie! One of our winners was Corey Wolfe, with the story of his participation in a fundraising gala he desperately wanted to attend.
Next up is our second winner, Kat Knapp, who shared about a turning point in her relationship with her family.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Tom Shelley. Tom shared his story about a time his students' actions surprised him.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania.
On November 19th, the ten winners from our monthly open mic story slams returned to compete for the title of Best Storyteller in York.
The theme for the evening was NO REGRETS. We heard stories of loved ones lost and found, and the fear and exhilaration of taking a step forward even in uncertainty.
Mina Edmondson won with her story of mischief that she and her siblings got into as children. Mina took home the trophy and bragging rights as the Best Storyteller in York.
Next up we have a story from Matt McDunnell, who talked about making difficult decisions in the best interest of loved ones.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Ash DeVoe. Ash told the story of her first day on the job at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.

Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On October 15th, eleven storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York.
The theme for our October story slam was TRICK OR TREAT. We heard stories of Halloween pranks, non-Halloween pranks, ghosts, and delightful treats. In the end, our winner was Randy Parker, who won with his story about trying to scare a high school date with a ghost story.
Next up we have a story from Leo DiSanto, who shared a story remembering celebrating Halloween through the years with his dad.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Chris Kauffman. Chris told the story of riding on a float in the Red Lion Halloween parade.

The theme for our September story slam was FAMILY FEUD. We heard stories of grudges, divorces, and deaths in the family, and even one about punching a rabbi. In the end, our winner was Ted Elicker, who won with his story about the time he accidentally auditioned for a game show.
Next up we have a story from Jason Plotkin, who shared a story about his family's favorite part of the Thanksgiving turkey.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from a first-time storyteller for York Story Slam, Jeff Stoltzfus. Jeff told the story of the consequences of his childhood feuding with his sister.

The theme for our August story slam was INTO THE WILD. We heard stories of hiking, biking, and swimming in the wilderness, and stories of navigating dangerous situations in remote locations. In the end, our winner was Ash DeVoe, who won with her story about an unusual outdoor portrait session.

The theme for our June story slam was MEMORY LANE. We heard stories of a grandmother with Alzheimer’s losing her memory, an oral history project that connected one of our storytellers with his great-grandfather, and memories of working for a family business.
In the end, our winner was Mark Lentz, who won with his story about his favorite high school teacher, who left a lasting impression on him.
Next up we have a story from Sam Ruland, who shared her Groundhog Day-style experience with residents of Gill Street in State College.
Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Allen Dietrich-Ward. Allen shared the story of an oral history project that allowed him to capture his great-grandfather's life.
